Recycling and Refuse
Refuse Collection
The weekly Refuse Collection takes place early on a Monday morning.
Leave your wheelie bin in a suitable position on the Sunday evening. Please ensure that no highways, pavements or footpaths are obstructed by your bin.
Special collection arrangements can be made where necessary by contacting the clerk on 819690
Where Can I Recycle?
Why not start at Home?
If you don't already compost you could think about buying a subsidised bin (scroll down to see further details of this).
In Maughold we are also fortunate to be able to offer free advice on composting from Mark our 'Master Composter'. A whole range of information and advice is available how to get started, what items to compost, etc.
Please contact the Commissioners on 819690 for further information.

Fridges/freezers recycling
Due to changes in legislation, household fridges and freezers are now recycled. However, there is a charge for this service (£24.50 + VAT per unit) as each unit is sent to the UK for dismantling / degassing and full recycling. Maughold residents can take their unwanted fridge or freezer to the Northern CA Site for recycling. An invoice to cover the recycling charge will be issued, and the Northern CA requests that residents take a form of I.D. with them (e.g. Driving Licence) in order that this can be arranged.
For any householder unable to take their fridge / freezer to the Northern CA site for recycling, there is a home collection service available (£34.50 + VAT). Please phone Manx Waste Solutions (Tel: 495327) to arrange.
Compost bins
Why throw your garden waste away when you can turn it into nutritious compost to use in your garden ? If you would like a cut price compost bin, made from 100% recycled plastic, they are available in two sizes:
1) Compost Converter 220 litre - £14.95 (RRP £40)
2) Compost Converter 330 litre - £19.95 (RRP £50)

Furniture
Hospice Furniture Shop will collect saleable furniture from people's homes to raise money for the Island's Charity.
Hospice will collect items of furniture such as wardrobes, tables, sofas etc. However, they have advised a number of conditions:
No gas-related appliances will be accepted
All upholstery and furniture must hold fire regulation labels
All items are accepted at the discretion of the Hospice worker or Hospice volunteer who carries out the collections (i.e. if an item is considered unsaleable, then it will not be accepted).
For further information, please telephone the Hospice Shops Warehouses Office: 615055.
Computer / TV / Monitor recycling

A home collection service is available, and all items are exported to the UK for recycling. There is a charge for this service (prices on request).
